The Bears latest inter county friendly saw the travel to Waddesdon BC to take on Buckinghamshire. A good display saw Warwickshire win on five out of six rinks with an overall 108-67 score.

Rick Hayes (Three Spires), Ken Orton (Royal Leamington Spa), Graham Farrell (Thornfield) and Past President Phil Green scored five singles and a five to lead by nine with seven ends gone. The hosts scored a double but Green and replied with a four and a trio of singles before Bucks took another single. Green’s rink finished with four singles and a double to complete their 23-4 victory. Lucas Hampson (Bidford), Match Secretary Mike Hall, Mark Noble (Thornfield) and Past President Nigel Hewitson hit three fours and a double to lead by fourteen after seven ends. A five on the fifteenth end by Buckinghamshire cut the lead down to nine but Hewitson and co made those shots back in the remaining ends, winning 26-12.

President Graham O’Donohue, Mick Sharpe (Rugby Rail), Tim Messinger (Wolvey) and Bruce Truman (Rugby Rail) reached the midway point five shots up but dropped a four on the next end. With five ends left the lead had doubled to two, which they still held with three ends left. A good finish took the President’s rink to a 17-12 win. John Brindley, Joe Cox (both Wolvey), Colin Hall (Thornfield) and Vice President Geoff Moran scored a third end four but had to settle for a two shot lead with seven ends played. In the next five ends they dropped just one shot, taking the lead to eight. A last end five by Bucks could only reduce the lead, Moran and co winning 16-13.

Lee Ingleston (Rugby Rail), Ian Maule (Southam), Ted Coupe (Executive) and Dan Hampson (Bidford) reached the halfway stage a shot down. With four ends to play that had risen to three but a pair of singles and pair of doubles saw Hampson’s rink steal the 13-10 win. Gary Laffey (Royal Leamington Spa), Chris Howarth (Wellesbourne), County Secretary Michael Jackson and Assistant Secretary Bob Allcock were two shots down after ten ends but slipped to seven adrift with four ends to go. Three doubles saw Allcock and co move within one shot of the hosts but the last end went to Bucks who won 16-13.
