Warwickshire’s penultimate friendly game saw Gloucestershire head to Sherwood Park BC. The visitors won the encounter 117-111.
Past President Graham O’Donohue, Nigel Malka (Oakfield), David Vowles (Avon) and John Hibbert (Wolvey) kicked on in the second quarter to lead by six at the midway stage and added seven in the next three ends to further increase their lead. A strong finish saw Hibbert and co cruise to a 28-9 victory. David Deakin (Avenue Leamington), Ian Box (Rugby Police), Immediate Past President Don Darby and Nick Breen (Newbold) scored a couple of fours and threes to reach halfway twelve up. The second half was more balanced with the visitors just edging it, Breen’s rink 25-15 winners.
Des Workman (Kings Heath), Jim Ward (Sherwood Park), Roy Lawrence (Avenue Coventry) and Assistant Secretary Bob Allcock were level after eight ends but trailed by five with six ends left. While Allcock and co scored five shots in the remaining ends their opponents took three shots to win 15-12. Senior Vice President Clive Faulkner, Geoff Ward (Lillington), David Knee (Grange) and Tim Messinger (Wolvey) led by two after eleven ends but were a shot down with five ends left. Gloucestershire scored ten shots in four ends, Messinger picking up a last end treble, final score 25-17 to the visitors.
Lindsay Shaw (Grange), George Morrison (Kings Heath), John Wyllie (Snitterfield) and County President Geoff Moran held a ten shot advantage after nine ends but were pulled back to parity after fifteen ends. The final ends belonged to Gloucestershire, the President’s rink losing 16-25. Rick Hayes (Avenue Leamington), Peter Warrilow (Wolvey), County Secretary Michael Jackson and Peter Dymond (Grange) only scored once in the first ten ends, trailing by fourteen. A good spell over the next five ends cut the deficit to two but Dymond and co were shut out in the remaining ends, final score 15-28.
