Recent inter county fixtures have seen a loss by one and a draw, the Bears completed the sequence with a 108-107 win against Hertfordshire away at Berkhamstead BC.
Junior Vice President Peter Vale Humphries, Jeff Bayliss (Bilton), Pat Sweeney (Matrix) and Assistant Secretary Bob Allcock trailed by three at the midway stage but reached parity four ends later. A good spell took Allcock’s rink thirteen shots clear, the hosts replied with a couple of singles, the Bears winning 24-13. Paul Vaughan (Erdington Court), Chris Vipond (Matrix), County Secretary Michael Jackson and Past President Brian Mace Humphries made a good start but a five on the tenth end helped bring Herts within three shots. A steady second half saw the Bears over the line, Mace Humphries and co winning 24-17.
Graham Clarke (Matrix), Jerry Horne (Royal Leamington Spa), John Furness (Rugby Railway) and Dick Allibon (Royal Leamington Spa) were locked in a tight battle with their opponents, level after six ends and thirteen ends. With two ends left to play Allibon and co led by two but the hosts took two singles to share the spoils 14-14. Chris Richards (Rugby Police), Match Secretary Mike Hall, Dave Owen (Rugby Police) and Bruce Truman (Rugby Railway) were level after eleven ends and also sixteen ends. Hertfordshire finished string, Truman’s rink losing 19-24.
Senior Vice President Clive Faulkner, Jim Ward (Sherwood Park), Ian Brown (Kings Heath) and Past President Aubrey Brookhouse fought back from a slow start to all square after twelve ends. Hertfordshire limited the Bears to three more shots, adding nine of their own, winning 19-13. Past President Graham O’Donohue, Rick Hayes (Avenue Leamington), Dick Williams (Royal Leamington Spa) and County President Geoff Moran were a shot up after eight ends but with four to play level. The hosts took the remaining ends, Moran’s rink losing 14-20.
