After the original attempt at playing this match had to be abandoned following a serious medical problem for one of the players it was rescheduled for the morning of the Bears Middleton Cup game against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham BC.
The rinks representing Warwickshire were: Mark Smith (Avenue Leamington), Dan Box (Little Compton), Calvin Wells (Nuneaton) and Tom Millership (Rugby). Matt Wells (Rugby), Martin Heitzman (Avenue Leamington), Martin Timms (Welford) and Mark Ireland (Erdington Court).
A mistake by the Gloucestershire skip gave Millership’s rink a good start and after six ends they led by five while Ireland and co had gained a four shot advantage after seven. Ireland’s opponents fought back to parity on the twelfth end but Millership kept adding shots, eleven ends gone and they led by twelve. Gloucestershire went ahead by four against Ireland and co but the Bears fought back to swing the rink in their favour, leading by five with three ends left.
Meanwhile Millership and co were still adding shots with no reply from their opponents. With four ends to go on Millership’s rink and one on Ireland’s Gloucestershire admitted defeat, Millership winning 27-5, Ireland 17-12 giving the Bears an overall 44-17 victory.
