A scorching hot Stoke BC welcomed Berkshire in the latest inter-county friendly. Berkshire proved to be too hot to handle, winning the game 126-104.

Immediate Past President Graham O’Donohue, Match Secretary Mike Hall, Pete Storer (Grange) and Nick Breen (Newbold) were two down after twelve ends but reeled off a single, seven, three fours and a double to race clear, final score 29-11 to Breen and co. Ian Box (Rugby Police), Clive Burbage (Solihull Municipal), President Don Darby and Gary Wilkinson (Grange) got off to a flying start, 18-5 after twelve ends. Berkshire hit a trio of singles but the Bears replied likewise, Berkshire took five in the remaining ends to cut the deficit to 21-13.

Neil Webb (Grange), Chris Howarth (Norgren), Dave Owen (Rugby Police) and Past President Brian Mace Humphries recovered from an early eight shot deficit to reach the midway point all square. The Bears edged ahead only for Berkshire to wipe the deficit and lead by one with two ends left. Mace Humphries’ rink took a four before dropping a last end single to win 20-18. Brian Lindley (Bilton), Geoff Ward (Lillington), Secretary Michael Jackson and Tony Mann (Ambleside) started well but slipped to a six shot deficit after ten ends. That increased to ten but Mann and co finished with four singles to reduce the deficit, final score 23-17 to the visitors.

They finished stronger but couldn’t deny the visitors a 30-10 victory.
