Whitnash's Andy Strain and Matt Swift (Royal Leamington Spa) have been called up for their first cap for the upcoming British Bowls International Series to be played at Northfield BC, Ayr from Thursday 25th June to Sunday 28th June.
Andy and Matt will be representing England as part of the Para Squad. They will join Andy Walters (Welford) who is in the Men's International squad and Emily Kernick (Royal Leamington Spa) who is in the Women's International squad with her club colleague Kirsty Richards named as a non travelling reserve.
A poor start in the opening Middleton Cup fixture at Royal Leamington Spa BC against Gloucestershire saw the Bears at one stage 33 shots adrift. Despite a valiant fightback Warwickshire could only win three rinks but lose 106-109, picking up 6 points.
Warwickshire travelled to Abington BC to take on Northamptonshire in the latest inter-county friendly. Three winning rinks and a drawn rink helped them to an 111-89 victory.
The Bears latest inter county friendly saw the travel to Waddesdon BC to take on Buckinghamshire. A good display saw Warwickshire win on five out of six rinks with an overall 108-67 score.
Warwickshire travelled to Cheltenham BC to take part in the West Region Balcomb Trophy event, joining hosts Gloucestershire as well as Worcestershire and Wiltshire. The Bears selected the same team for all three games, Pairs: Mark Ireland (Avenue Coventry) & Andy Walters (Welford); Triples: Aiden Maries, Mark Smith & Adam Smith (all Avenue Leamington); Fours: Keith Avery, Keith Wooding (both Avenue Coventry), Alan Prew (Welford) & Craig Carter (Rugby).
